A COMMUNITY is rallying around the child whose mother was killed in a car crash.

Friends of Michelle Swinton, 22, who died along with her soldier boyfriend Jamie Hall, 22, in a car crash in Blackhall just before midnight on February 5, have set up a trust fund for her four-year-old son, Jack.

The couple were killed when the Seat Ibiza they were travelling in flipped on to its roof and hit a tree near the A1086 Coast Road, in Blackhall Rocks, near Horden.

Ms Swinton’s mother Christine, 42, of Blackhall Rocks, said: “She was a doting mother, very independent and wanted to better her and Jack’s life.

“Her death has had an absolutely devastating effect on us all.

“It is cruel and tragic loss of such a young life. She had so much to live for.”

A fund-raising night will be held at Peterlee Lodge Hotel on Saturday, starting at 6pm. Tickets are £5.

Mothers from Jack’s school, Hesleden Primary, have organised a dance-a-thon in Blackhall Community Centre on Thursday, February 24, from 6pm to 8pm also to raise money for the Jack Swinton Trust Fund.
