TRIBUTES have poured in for a former Sunderland footballer who was once destined for greatness.
Though in his later life Gary Breeds, 44, found himself the subject of banning orders, he’s been remembered for his early promise as an England and SAFC youth team member.
Football fans took to the Ready To Go forum to pay their respects to Gary, of Fulwell, who played alongside ex-Sunderland stars Richard Ord and Gary Owers.
Such was his promise in the sport, Gary was the youngest ever to be capped for England Boys when he was just 15-years-old.
He died yesterday after a battle with liver cancer.
One Ready To Go forum user wrote: “Was an unbelievable footballer at schoolboy level, head and shoulders above everyone else in my era of football and should’ve been a household name by now.”
Gary hit the headlines this year after failing to overturn his football banning order so he could go to this year’s Capital One Cup Final at Wembley.
