Tributes to soldier found dead in Sunderland

An investigation has been launched following the death of a soldier in Sunderland.

An inquest will be opened at Sunderland Civic Centre tomorrow

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that Riflemen Robert Anderson was found dead in the city on Saturday.

Numerous tributes to the 21-year-old - known as Bobby - have been left on social media.

A spokesman for the MoD said: "We can confirm that Rfn Robert Anderson of 3rd Battalion, The RIFLES, was found dead in Sunderland on 8 September.

"This is under investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment further.

"Our thoughts are with Rfn Anderson’s family and friends at this difficult time."

An inquest into his death will be opened at Sunderland Coroner's Court tomorrow.
