A tree surgeon has become his own boss after visiting the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland.
Jack Murray, 19, met with business adviser Ron Anderson, whose advice and support enabled him to secure a start-up loan and the New Enterprise Allowance, to launch Blackthorn Tree Services.
“I love being outdoors,” said Jack.
“Once I had completed studies in arboriculture and forestry I decided I wanted to work for myself.
“Since starting the business it’s been a lot busier than I thought it would be and the response has been fantastic.
“I get to choose when and how I work, and the freedom that comes with being self-employed is what I enjoy the most.
“My short-term goals are to continue to build the brand name and reputation.
“Future aims are to move the business into commercial premises and take on staff.”
