A motorcyclist has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after a road accident.

It happened at 3.45pm today when the motorcyclist collided with a car near Chester-le-Street.

The 29-year-old man, from South Durham, was flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary by a trauma team from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

He had already been treated on scene by a North East Ambulance Service paramedic.

His injuries were described as severe or serious, but he reportedly arrived at hospital in a stable condition.
