Metro machines stop taking old £1 coins ahead of round pound withdrawal

Passengers can no longer use their old pound coins in Metro machines as we prepare to say farewell to the round coinage.

Metro bosses say the system's ticket machines have now been switched over to take only the new 12-sided pound coins.

The old pound coins go out of circulation on Sunday October 15.

In a statement put out today, Metro said: "Metro ticket machines have stopped accepting old £1 coins in a phased update from this week. Please use an alternative payment method."
