Fire crews helped rescue a person trapped in a car after a two-vehicle crash at Pennywell Industrial Estate.

Shortly before 1.45pm on Thursday, February 6, emergency services were called with reports of the accident at Argus Fluid Handling, Pennywell Industrial Estate.

One crew from Sunderland Central Fire Station and one from Farringdon Community Fire Station were sent to the road to assist with a passenger who had become trapped.

At around 2.15pm, a spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service said: “The incident has concluded but we remain at the scene with police and ambulance services.”

Police confirmed that a person had been rescued from a vehicle as a result of the crash.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Fire and Rescue assisted with the rescue of a person who was trapped in a car.

“The road was not blocked.”

No traffic delays were recorded in the area during this time.
