A MAN was cut free from his car after suffering chest pains following a collision.

The motorist, aged in his 50s, was in his Renault Scenic when it was involved in an accident with a Toyota Yaris on Stockton Road, Dalton-le-Dale, next to the Times Inn pub.

The woman and her 18-month-old grandson which had been in the Toyota were not injured.

Firefighters from Seaham cut off the door to the man’s car and he was taken to Sunderland Royal for treatment.

The road was closed for around half an hour as the emergency services cleared the scene and police carried out investigations.

Anyone with information which could help the inquiry into the crash is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101.
