Delays of over 40 minutes on A1 near Sunderland turn off following collision

Northumbria Police has confirmed officers are at the scene of a crash on the A1 southbound on Thursday afternoon (June 10).

A picture of a car involved in the collision and is blocking part of the carriageway has been shared by officers on social media.

Details on injuries are not yet known but Northumbria Police believe the incident should be cleared shortly.

A spokesman for the force says: “We're currently dealing with a collision on the A1 south bound just prior to the A1231. The surrounding road network is feeling the strain, but we'll have everyone on their way soon.”

AA traffic live is reporting delays of over 40 minutes on the stretch of road as emergency services deal with the crash during rush hour.
