Cyclist injured in road smash

A MAN has been rushed to hospital after being knocked from his bike.

The cyclist was involved in a collision with a Citroen car on Newbottle Street, Houghton, near the roundabout junction with Hillside Way.

Police were called to the incident at 8.45am this morning where the man was treated at the scene before being taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known, but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101 ext. 69191, quoting reference number 347 310115.
