A female taxi driver has been left shaken after she was forced from the A19 into a field.
Firefighters from Peterlee station were called to the busy road, between Seaham and Doxford Park, Sunderland, just after 7pm this evening.
The female driver had been hit from behind by an Audi, while travelling at around 60mph.
Her car spun and she was forced off the road, through a fence, and into a field.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “She was shaken up but fine, she wasn’t injured.
“She was quite lucky that all the impact was taken by the back of the vehicle and she came away unharmed.
“She was checked over by paramedics but didn’t need to go to hospital.
“The road went down to one lane and was quite backed up but it should be starting to clear now.”
