Car fire on A1(M) leads to lane closure as emergency services clear scene

Traffic was held on the A1(M) after a car blaze broke out on a stretch of the route in County Durham.

Highways England said motorists were stopped for a short period of the southbound side of the road between junction 61 at Bowburn, near Durham City, and junction 60 at Bradbury at 4.45pm today, Sunday, January 24.

Traffic officers, maintenance crews and firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue were sent to the scene, with one lane then reopened to vehicles.
