A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with suspected pelvic injuries after a crash on a Sunderland road.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Ryemount Road to a Suzuki Vitara that had crashed into a telegraph pole.
The collision happened at 11.36am, today.
One man, believed to be suffering from pelvic and back injuries, had to be cut free by firefighters who removed the side of the car.
He was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
A second man who had managed to free himself from the wreckage was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with suspected neck injuries.
Police were forced to close Tunstall Road from the Venerable Bede School to the second junction to Ryemount Road.
The road was re-opened at 1.15pm.
