Traffic left queuing after vehicle breakdown near A19 and A1231 roundabout in Sunderland

Traffic was left queuing on a major Sunderland road after a vehicle broke down.

North East Live Traffic confirmed at around 2.45pm that a lane had been closed off to traffic at the roundabout linking the A19 and A1231 Sunderland Highway, close to the Vantec site.

Police were called to the scene to help manage traffic, which has been left queuing beyond the Pattison Road and Nissan Way interchange.

The AA said the road was partially blocked, with the area clear by 3.25pm.

At the time of the incident it said “There is queueing traffic due to stalled car transporter on A1231 Sunderland Highway at A19.

“This is affecting eastbound traffic towards Sunderland, on the roundabout.”

The account, @NELiveTraffic reported: “A1231 Hylton Grange Roundabout, lane one remains temporarily closed just after the A19 Onslip Northbound and the A19 Southbound offslip also has a closure on it whilst the recovery of the broken down vehicle takes place.”
