Trains are running to all stations, but Tyne and Wear Metro has described the service as “poor” and warned that trains will be busier than usual, with some gaps between services.

Metro tickets and passes can be used on Go North East bus services 26/27 between Monument and South Shields and on the number 46 to Sunderland in both directions.

Metro tickets are also accepted on all Arriva services from Newcastle City Centre towards Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends.

Metro has apologised for the disruption.
