The 30-year-old was having his medical and discussing personal terms at the Academy of Light yesterday.

The Black Cats could confirm the deal for the former Hull City forward as early as today but he won’t be involved in the crucial Premier League match at Swansea City tomorrow night.

Sam Allardyce has moved quickly to bring in the striker on a four-month loan deal from Turkish side Trabzonspor to bolster his attacking options.

Allardyce said: “He is going through the process of being signed on at the club at the moment.

“He will hopefully get through all the tests that we participate in and come out the other end with a clean bill of health and get him signed up and raring to go.”

Sunderland have already signed Bayern Munich centre-back Jan Kirchhoff on an 18-month deal for a fee of £750,000.

And Allardyce is looking to add a couple more signings before the window closes on February 1, although that is likely to depend on fringe players being moved out.

After Hulls relegation in May, N’Doye joined Trabzonspor in a £2.2million deal, but he has failed to find the net amid reported wage issues.

The striker played under Steve Bruce at Hull City last season and Allardyce spoke to close friend Bruce before making a move.

When asked if they’d spoke, Allardyce added: “Absolutely.

“One of the attractions is he performed very well for Hull City and scored five goals in 12 games.

“We have seen those goals, we have watched them.

“He has had a struggle in Turkey, it hasn’t quite worked for him, and this can happen when you are playing in different countries with different cultures.

“But certainly what he experienced in the Premier League last year means he can hit the ground running. He proved that last year and hopefully he can hit the ground running for us.”

Hull spent £3million on N’Doye last January after he had proved to be prolific for FC Copenhagen and Lokomotiv Moscow. He showed his goalscoring quality for the Tigers, even though there were big question marks over his temperament.

N’Doye is expected to take the place of Blackburn target Danny Graham in Allardyce’s striker options, although the ex-Swansea man will not be allowed to leave this week.
