Hundreds of people joined in the party atmosphere at Houghton Feast’s traditional parade.
This afternoon’s event brought together schools, nurseries, community groups and churches, marching down Newbottle Street, which was lined with well-wishers.
They were followed by scores of vehicle enthusiasts, with the Bethany Church Wagon bringing the celebration to a close.
John Price is a member of the Houghton 41 Club, which plans the event as part of the 10-day festival.

Paul Lanagan, chairman of Houghton Heritage Society, added: “I think the 41 Club has surpassed itself again and done the town proud on the feast’s 50th anniversary.”
Members of 1st Herrington Scouts helped lead out the groups following on from Houghton Pipe Band and Hetton 36th Air Squadron.
Steve Gibson, group Scout leader, said: “We take part every year and it’s all about showing a bit of community spirit.
“The children love it.”
