FOOTBALL fans will be invited to tuck into a host of transatlantic treats today, as they are pitched new foods to try.
A food exchange has been set up between Black Cats and Major League Soccer’s DC United, who are sister clubs.
The deal, set up by Centerplate, hospitality partner of the clubs, will see Sunderland supporters at the Stadium of Light offered torn beef, hot cheese, grilled pepper and onion baguettes with fries and dipping sauce in a twist on the American-style cheesesteak as the side takes on Crystal Palace FC.
In Washington DC, where the team will play the New York Red Bulls at the RFK Stadium, fans will be able to dig into dishes including steak and ale pie with chips, peas and gravy.
Yesterday, as preparations got under way, the Foundation of Light hosted a competition which saw youngsters make their best cheesesteak and fries with toppings using different vegetables and other ingredients from Centreplate.
Members of the SAFC Ladies’ squad were drafted in to pick the winner.
