THE value of council-produced area newsletters was called into question by Tory councillor Alan Wright.
Conservative and independent councillors have boycotted the publications, which they view to be a waste of taxpayers’ cash and public-funded self-publicity.
The ruling Labour group, however, says they are an important part of keeping Wearsiders up to speed.
Coun Wright asked what research had been carried out into the readership of the newsletters.
Labour councillor Cecilia Gofton said three consultations had been carried out looking at a number of issues and almost 70 per cent of those taking part thought the newsletters were value for money.
