Frank Lampard announced his retirement on Thursday and there was an immediate media gush.

So sycophantic and maudlin was the coverage, it was not immediately obvious that he hadn’t died. Thankfully Frank is still breathing, although the announcement still provided a surprise to those of us who thought he had packed in ages ago.

Meanwhile Lampard’s former boss José Mourinho proved yet again what a “character” he is by throwing a trademark tantrum, flouncing away and insulting a BBC reporter who had offended him with a line of questioning that was deliberately reasonable after Manchester United failed to beat Hull.

Many were left to wonder what had instigated this latest demonstration of infantility.

My own suggestion would be an inherent pig-ignorance.
