Time to think of ourselves

Well, I can assure him that Mr Corbyn’s words were not unbelievable to the millions of people from all walks of life, who marched together in opposition of nuclear weapons.

For example, if Mr O’Brien thought Mr Corbyn had spoken the following words, he would have been wrong: “Nuclear weapons have shown themselves completely useless as a deterrent to the threats and scale of violence we currently face, particularly from international terrorism.”

Those comments came from the former head of the armed forces, Field Marshal Lord Bramall, who also said he wanted the money spent on the Trident to be used on conventional weapons.

Mr O’Brien reckoned I had gone blind to the reality of a defenceless UK.

He should know my father and his four sons all wore the khaki in defence of the realm.

That experience never lets you forget the importance of maintaining the security of the UK. In fact, for this reason, we should be asking the question, would the absence of Trident compromise national security? The answer seems to be no!

For decades there have been only three countries armed with nuclear weapons in Europe, the UK, France and Russia, who we class as the enemy. All the other European countries have not joined the nuclear club.

Yet for decades they have lived in total peace without so much as a squeak from that bogeyman Mr Russia.

While Britain has been spending billions of taxpayers’ cash on weapons of mass destruction, the likes of Germany have been spending billions on investment on themselves.

It’s time the nuclear money drain was cancelled.

We could then spend the billions of pounds on our infrastructure, NHS and the vulnerable, all of which have been wilfully neglected by this so-called Government.
