A SUSPECTED dodgy dealer is targeting vulnerable Wearsiders.
Police have received several reports about a man calling at Sunderland houses trying to sell cheap watches,
In most cases the man has targeted vulnerable, elderly people and has been pushy with them in a bid to secure a sale.
Police are carrying out inquiries and have teamed up with Trading Standards to investigate whether any offences have been committed.
Superintendent Jim Napier said: “We always advise people to be cautious of anyone who knocks on the door unannounced, whether they’re selling something or claiming to be from a utility company or any other organisation.
“It could be the caller is genuine, but it’s always good practice to be vigilant and check their credentials.
“If a salesperson is being pushy, it is not untoward for people to tell them they’re not interested and close the door to them. If they’re in doubt or feel threatened in anyway they should ring the police.
“We’d ask anyone who has elderly and vulnerable relatives or friends to pass on this advice to them.”
