A robber has made off with a till after threatening staff with a knife at a shop in the city.

Police are urging witnesses to come forward following the incident, which took place at Hendon Discount Stores, at around 5pm yesterday.

A man wearing a face covering and dark clothing entered the premises, on Villette Road, and requested a lottery ticket.

He then threatened a member of staff with a knife and demanded the till.

The man removed the till from the scene and left the store in the direction of Saint Leonard Street.

It is believed the man made off in a vehicle waiting nearby, police have said.

The member of staff was unharmed after the robbery, but shaken.

Extra officers are in the area carrying out inquiries and providing reassurance to members of the public.
