Thugs mug teen in Houghton

Have your say

A TEENAGER had his wallet and mobile phone stolen in a terrifying attack in Houghton.

The 17-year-old was walking on Church Street, when, after crossing the footbridge over Houghton Cut, he was approached by two men.

They grabbed the victim and dragged him from the path to some bushes where they stole his belongings and made off.

Officers say the boy was left shaken but wasn’t injured.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses.

Acting Inspector Andy Taylor said: “This was a nasty attack on a teenager by two men who were much bigger and stronger than him and understandably the victim has been left very shaken by the incident. I’d urge anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything to contact police.”

The incident happened between 10.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday.

They are being asked to call Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
