Three-year ban for SAFC fan

A TEENAGER has been banned from football matches for three years after getting involved in derby day violence.

Sunderland supporter Michael Watt tried to attack a steward at St James’ Park, after the 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United in October last year.

Newcastle magistrates heard that police saw the 18-year-old, of Aldwych Square, Farringdon, chasing officials as part of a group of fans.

“He was attempting to kick the stewards in a drop-kick motion,” said crown prosecutor Stephen Davies.

“And then he threw a punch towards them.”

Chris Wilson, defending, said Watt denied kicking or punching the steward, but admitted threatening behaviour.
