THREE men were rescued after their boat broke down in the Wear.

Sunderland Lifeboat crews were called to the river, just under the Queen Alexandra Bridge, at 8pm on Thursday.

The speedboat had suffered engine failure leaving the men stranded.

A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: “The boat was towed back to Sunderland Marina where the crew were met by the Coastguard.”
