Three people taken to hospital after ambulance collides with car near Sunderland's Northern Spire bridge
The collision took place shortly before 4.25pm on Friday, January 17.
A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson said: “We were alerted to a road traffic collision involving a car and a British Red Cross ambulance on Wessington Way in Sunderland at 16:23 today.

Hide Ad“The ambulance was travelling to a Category 3 patient at the time.
“We dispatched three ambulances and a clinical care manager to the scene. Three patients have been taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and one is making their own way to hospital.”
Emergency service remained on the scene afterwards and motorists were being advised to avoid using the Northern Spire bridge at this time as the situation was causing major delays.
