Three hurt in crash

A MAN was arrested after a suspected stolen car was involved in a crash.

The incident happened after a Nissan Sunny failed to stop for police in Blind Lane, Houghton.

A patrol officer followed the car, which was then involved in a collision with a Suzuki Vitara in Golfcourse Road, Shiney Row, at 8pm on Tuesday.

Eight firefighters from Sunderland South Community Fire Station, Rainton Bridge, were called to the scene.

The driver of the Nissan, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to a leg injury.

Two men in the Suzuki suffered injuries to their legs and also needed hospital treatment.

The 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent, and later bailed pending investigations.
