FAMILY pets had to be saved after a home was set on fire in an arson attack.

Fire officers received a call just after 11.45pm on Monday reporting flames coming from the rear garden of a house in Windermere Road, in Seaham.

Two men spotted the flames and managed to alert the occupants of the house – a man aged 20 and two of his three younger sisters. They managed to get themselves out of the property unharmed.

The brother then went back into the blazing house to rescue the family’s three dogs – two spaniels and a pitbull terrier.

Durham Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
