Thieves steal motorbike from Sunderland home - by putting it in a car

The bike was taken from outside a house in Thistle Road, Thorney Close, on Monday, February 15, as part of what police are describing as a 'spate' of vehicle thefts across the west of the city.

Now drivers are being reminded to 'lock it or lose it.'

Overnight on Saturday, February 13, a vehicle was stolen after it had been left parked in Clinton Place, East Herrington.

And on Monday, February 22, a scooter was taken after being left insecure in a rear yard of a house in Goole Road, Grindon. It is believed the bike was pushed away.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the incidents and appealing for information.

Motorists are being warned thieves are targeting the area and reminded to make sure they protect their vehicle and help prevent it being targeted.

Neighbourhoood Inspector Lisa Laverick said: "Thieves are targeting the area and we want to remind people to make sure they make it as difficult as possible for them to steal.

"At the very least motorists should always lock the vehicle when they leave it unattended, and double check it is locked. Parking in as secure as a place as possible can help such as a secure car park or driveway as well as if possible parking where there is adequate lighting - whether it is street lighting or security lighting, if a thief can clearly be seen it is likely to deter them."
