Have your say

TROLLEY-LOADS of goodwill are on their way to the very poorest of families in Sunderland, thanks to you.

The difference your gifts will bring is breathtaking, in homes where life on the breadline leaves no cash for Christmas.

Busy loading up from Echo House have been are staff from Wearside Women In Need refuges which are packed with mothers and children, as well as Sunderland Social Services and charities for orphans and needy youngsters.

It is amazing how desperate mothers will find the burden of providing for their children lifted because of your generosity.

A 39-year-old Sunderland mother with girls aged 13 and 15, will be spending Christmas in a refuge after fleeing her dangerous, alcoholic partner six months ago.

She has lost her home, her furniture and belongings and has a mountain of rent arrears:

“I just don’t feel like Christmas,” she said.

“I have lost everything. I have only got the girls a few clothes, but I never seem to have any money.”

She left all she had behind to escape from her partner.

“I had just had enough and it isn’t fair on my daughters. I just want a better life for them.”

There are so many more like her who are dreading Christmas, single mothers, young couples struggling to make ends meet and young men and women coming out of care with no families to give them a gift.

Your generosity will make a world of difference, so keep your wonderful gifts coming.

Even the smallest present, basics such as toiletries and others for teenage boys will light up lives this Christmas Day.
