JACK is the most popular name for a baby boy in the North East, new figures showed today.

It was followed by Harry, Oliver, Charlie, James, Alfie, Thomas, Joshua, Jacob and Daniel in the top 10 for 2011, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Lily was the most popular name for a baby girl, followed by Ava and Olivia.

The rest of the top 10 was made up by Amelia, Grace, Sophie, Jessica, Emily, Evie and Lucy.

Nationally, Harry was top boy, taking over from Oliver, with Jack in third place.

Amelia topped the girls’ list, moving up four places and ousting Olivia.
