PUB bosses are celebrating after being named the city’s favourite venue.
The Jackson’s, in Roker, has been dubbed Best Bar 2014 by Sunderland Echo readers.
The pub, in Lower Dundas Street, was picked for the top prize after being nominated and securing the most votes from readers.
Bar manager Kevin ‘Shaky’ Gray was delighted about winning the prize.
He said: “Everyone is just over the moon, I am and so are all the customers. We won because we are the best bar in Sunderland.
“It’s got a really friendly atmosphere, it’s a family bar and we do a lot to raise money for charity.
“The locals love it and all the families come in together on match days and everyone has a great time watching the football together.
“It’s not just about the families though, it’s a proper pub as well. We’ve got a good balance and we cater for everyone.”
The pub holds big celebrations on St George’s Day and each year, is decorated inside and out with the St George Cross.
The building is also painted red and white – the colours of the flag and the city’s team, Sunderland AFC.
Shaky added: “We’re really happy about winning and can’t wait to get our trophy so we can proudly display it behind the bar.”
