NEW BOY CLARKE PLEDGES BIG IMPROVEMENT IN FORM: Downcast Clive Clarke has promised Sunderland fans he will improve in the weeks ahead after a debut to forget last night.

The newly-signed left-back came off the bench on the half-hour after injury forced skipper Steve Caldwell out of the game.
