TEN mums in Sunderland were given the best gift ever when they gave birth to Christmas Day babies.
One of the first babies to be born in the city on the big day was Harry James Garrett, who came into the world at just before 1am weighing 5lb 9ozs.
Mum Keely Parkin, 25, from Easington Colliery, who lives with partner Michael Garrett said: “He came three weeks early and has certainly made Christmas extra special. We’re going to have to make sure he’s extra spoilt on Christmas Day now it’s his birthday as well.”
Claire Henderson, 38, from Biddick Woods, spent Christmas morning cradling Adam Arthur Smith after he arrived early weighing 7lbs 8ozs at just after 8am.
The first-time mum, who lives with partner Adam Smith, said: “He wasn’t due until January 11 but my waters broke on the day before Christmas Eve, which was a bit of surprise. He’s a lovely Christmas present.”
Lisa Kilty, 39, from Fulwell, was in the middle of her turkey dinner when she went into labour with Esther Kilty, who was born weighing 7lbs 6ozs at 7pm.
“It was a quick labour and she’s certainly made Christmas extra special,” said the healthcare assistant who is married to Jean-Paul.
She added: “I have a little boy called Reuben, who’s two, and he can’t wait to meet his little sister.”
Dionne Hay, 36, from Concord in Washington, woke up on Christmas morning to find her waters had broken.
She gave birth to her first child, Aaliyah, who weighed 8lb 8ozs, at just after 6pm.

Michelle, who is also mum to Kyle McBeth, nine, said: “It’s lush to have her here. Kyle can’t wait to meet his sister.”
Nursery nurse Alyson Harding, 26, from Hetton, gave birth to her bundle of joy, Isabelle Bowater, at 4.37pm.
“I was due on the 23rd and was induced on Christmas Eve, it’s lovely that she’s been born on the 25th, but we’ll have to have Christmas when we get home,” said Alyson, who had Isabelle with partner Jack, 23.
Third-time mum Victoria Bainbridge, 26, from Marley Pots, says new addition to the family, Riley McManus, will be spoilt at Christmas.
He made his entrance at 7.15pm weighing 9lbs to meet Victoria and his dad Gareth McManus, 28.
“I was four days overdue. Everyone says it’s nice to have a Christmas Day baby and it’s lovely, but I’ve missed spending Christmas with my other children too,” said Victoria, who is also mum to Kaitlyn, seven, and Thomas, three.
