A WOMAN was rescued by police and firefighters after she was seen on a ledge of Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland.

The 19-year-old, described as ‘vulnerable’, was reported by members of the public who saw her on the ‘wrong side’ of the footpath barrier at about 10pm on Friday night.

Firefighters used rope rescue equipment to pull her to safety.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the woman was rescued by about 10.30pm, and taken away for questioning.
