Teenager in coast rescue

A TEENAGE girl suffered serious injuries after falling down a cliff while on a family day out.

The 13-year-old is believed to have fallen up to eight feet down the cliff at the Leas, in Marsden Bay, yesterday lunchtime.

The girl, from South Shields, landed on a rocky outcrop and falling rocks crushed her arm, pinning her to the ground.

The air ambulance, police and coastguard were called to the incident.

She was flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, suffering from head, arm and chest injuries.

Paramedic Jane Peacock, from the Great North Air Ambulance, praised the way the girl had coped with her experience.

She said: “Rocks landed on her right arm.

“She was in a bit of pain, but she was very good. She was just being a kid, playing on the rocks, and then she fell.”
