A teenager has been charged with a string of offences after a woman was allegedly raped in Sunderland.

The 17-year-old has been charged with rape, sexual assault, kidnap and two counts of common assault.

He was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court this morning.

Police were called to a report of a rape in an alley close to St Marks Church, in Matamba Terrace, at 3.30am on Sunday morning.
