A TEENAGER has been airlifted to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a sporting accident.

A Great North Air Ambulance helicopter was scrambled to Silksworth Sports Complex in Sunderland after a 17-year-old was involved in a serious accident at the centre’s skate park.

The air ambulance doctor and paramedic worked with ground crew to anaesthetise the patient on scene. He was then flown to a specialist unit at the RVI in Newcastle.

The incident happened at about 2.50pm today.

Details of the incident are yet to be confirmed, but it is believed the teenager was involved in an accident involving a skateboard or bike. His condition is said to be stable.
