A teen beauty queen is hitting the catwalk for a good cause.
After reaching the finals of Miss Teen Galaxy England, Italia-Mari Thompson, 17, from Seaburn, is hosting a charity fashion night at The Basement, in Green Terrace, tomorrow night.
The student will be drawing upon her fashion and textile course at Newcastle College for the event, which will raise funds for The Christie Charity.
Italia-Mari won a place in the Teen Galaxy final, which will take place in February, after submitting some of her photographic modelling work.
She says she’s hoping to bring the national title home to Sunderland, while also raising bumper funds for charity.
The teenager said: “I won a place in the semi-finals after submitting a series of photos, and it would be great to bring the overall title to Sunderland.
“In 2013 I was crowned Miss Teen Model, and pageants are something I’m really interested in. It’s a great experience going to the finals, and you meet so many people.
“With four years’ modelling experience, I have gained contacts throughout the industry, and have been able to use my experiences to put together this evening.”
The night will raise funds for The Christie charity, which is UK Galaxy pageants’ chosen charity.
The Christie are the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year.
Italia-Mari said: “It’s such a great cause and I’m happy that I can go some way in helping them.
“On the evening I’m also holding a raffle in aid of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and I’ve had lots of wonderful prize donations from lots of generous businesses.”
The show will consist of three sections with Newcastle College, Kathryn Russell Bridal and Lovely Little Me all showcasing garments. There will also be a performance by Olivia Devine.
