Teenage girl in critical condition after smash with lammpost near Durham

A 17-year-old driver is critically ill and two passengers have been left with injuries after her car collided with a lamppost late last night.

The crash happened at around 11pm on the A167 just north of the Cock O’ the North roundabout.

The driver, who is from New Brancepeth, was heading northbound when the Citroen she was driving left the road and collided with a lamppost.

No other vehicles were involved.

A 19-year-old man from Brandon and a 14-year-old boy from Ferryhill were also in the car.

They were both taken to hospital with back and chest injuries.

The road was closed until 5am.
