TEENAGE singer Sophie Leigh took to the stage at a busy shopping centre.
The 15-year-old, from Usworth Hall, Washington, missed out earlier this year in the national TeenStar competition.
After impressing a judging panel at regional heats, she appeared on stage at The O2 Arena, in London, but lost in the finals.
On Friday, the Biddick School Sports College pupil appeared at Eldon Square shopping centre to encourage unsigned artists to enter the Open Mic singing competition.
Proud mum Sarah said: “Sophie sang three songs, alongside other performers who made it through to the TeenStar final.
“Sophie has also auditioned for a national singing competition called SoundWave and sailed through to the next round, with the chance to perform at the 02 in Newcastle.
“There are two more stages, including two live performances, with large audiences.”
