Swimming activities held as part of Olympic build-up

Have your say

SWIMMERS are being called to make splash ahead of this year’s London Olympics.

As part of Durham County Council’s Join In programme, it is holding Big Splash Week.

In partnership with the Amateur Swimming Association, the events are hoping to get more people involved in swimming activities.

Strategic manager for indoor facilities at the authority, Steve Lister, said: “There are a number of excellent offers for free and taster activities.

“We’ve made sure there is something for everyone whether you’re new to swimming or highly experienced, so come along to your local leisure centre and get involved.”

Also part of Big Splash Week will be the Swimathon and Sport Relief Mile.

That will be held on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29.

Participants will be encouraged to swim one mile, about 64 lengths, either over the weekend or in one session.

It will take place at all Durham County Council operated swimming pools between Monday and Sunday, April 29.
