Swansea v Sunderland: Victory needed ... and wins for Chelsea and Stoke

It goes without saying that Sunderland could do with a win at Swansea tonight.

Premier League survival is in their own hands - get enough points and they will stay up.

But it does help if other strugglers continue to fail. It would have been better if Newcastle had not benefited from a late deflection against Manchester United last night!

Aston Villa’s win against Crystal Palace has lifted their spirits. After being completely written off, some pundits are now discussing a possible great escape (are all escapes ‘great’?).

Fortunately Bournemouth lost after going ahead against West Ham. Sunderland’s coming home game against the Cherries will be another key battle.

So what results would be welcome in the Prem tonight?

Chelsea v West Brom: Let’s hope Guus Hiddink has got Chelsea going (at least in this game). Are the Baggies any better than Sunderland? They are definitely looking over their shoulders at the bottom end of the table. We’d like a Blues victory.

Liverpool v Arsenal: Irrelevant to the battle at the bottom. But an Arsenal win at Anfield would keep them flying at the top and continue the doubts about Liverpool’s abailities.

Man City v Everton: The Toffees are too good to be dragged into trouble. They have good quality in their ranks. A defeat for pre-Guardiola City would be fun!

Southampton v Watford: There’s five points between Watford and the Saints. At the start of the season, we were looking at Watford to be right in the mix at the bottom. With 29 points already, they are surely safe. I can’t see Southampton being dragged into it, but purely because they trail the Hornets on points, I’m hoping for another Watford victory.

Stoke v Norwich: The Canaries could drop like a stone, so are right in the relegation mix. Stoke just have too many decent players and are nailed on for a mid-table finish. I’m hoping for a Swansea win and a fair few goals to demoralise Norwich.

Tottenham v Leicester: It’s fourth v second. Leicester are the good news story of the season - long may it continue. A Foxes win hopefully ... and Spurs to finish the season just outside the top four (as usual).

Swansea v Sunderland: A solid show from the visitors at the back and a threat on the attack. Defoe to score one or two, and Watmore to hit the net too!

Here’s hoping.
