Suspect arrested after man left with horrific injuries in Sunderland slashing

A man has been arrested after a horrific slashing incident in Sunderland.

Liam Newby, 27, was left with a horrific facial injury after being attacked on Saturday afternoon. Read more here.Police have now arrested an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He has been released on police bail.

Liam said he was approached by three men while he was out walking his friend’s dog on a path known locally as Town End Hill, in Town End Farm, at about 2pm.

One of them asked if they could borrow a lighter, and when Liam tried to oblige, he was slashed in the face with a knife.
