GRANDPARENTS and family carers who are bringing up children are invited to an advice event.
A help and advice session will be held at Sunderland’s Sandhill Centre on Friday for family members and friends who have taken on the responsibility of looking after someone else’s child.
Sunderland City Council works in partnership with More Than Grandparents Sunderland support and campaign group and has organised the event to promote the services which are available to people and give them a chance to share information.
Council portfolio holder for children’s services Coun Pat Smith said: “There are many domestic reasons why friends or family members assume temporary or long-term responsibility for looking after children. Each case is different and has to be considered individually.
“Circumstances will often be complex and difficult requiring the right information and support so that informed decisions can be made about the most appropriate care for the child.”
The session will be from 9.30am to noon and to confirm attendance ring Sandhill reception on 566 3200.
