SUNDERLAND is gearing up to welcome another top brand to the city centre.
Superdry has announced it will be bringing its popular hoodies and leisure wear to Wearside when it opens a new store in The Bridges.
Inspired by Japanese graphics and vintage American streetwear style, the clothing brand will be setting up shop in Central Square in a 4,655 sqft unit later this year.
Jonathon Buckle, Bridges portfolio manager, said: “This is fantastic news for The Bridges.
“Superdry has a wide appeal across all ages and the store’s opening is another great example of our pledge to increase the diversity of our fashion offer within the centre for our shoppers to enjoy.
“We are once again bringing retailers who are not only new to The Bridges, but new to Sunderland into the city.
“To welcome such aspirational brands such as Superdry into the centre is a huge achievement and testament to the growing profile the centre is establishing for itself.”
Since launching in 1985, the British brand’s popularity has swept across the globe.
Famous for making a name for itself without the use of advertising or celebrity endorsement, the company has grown from one store in London to shops in more than 300 countries, with 43 stores and more than 45 concessions throughout the UK.
This will be the first Superdry store in Sunderland and the third in the North East to open.
Damian Sumner, of Jones Lang Lasalle, the agents who brokered the deal, said: “This is a momentous success for The Bridges and for the city of Sunderland.
“We are continually trying to improve the retail mix at the centre and thanks to the opening of Superdry and the new £15million Primark expansion this highlights our commitment to creating a better shopping environment and an attractive destination for our customers.”
