The retired banker was inspired to take on the role after the club helped her drop from a size 18 to a 14.
Angela, who worked at Lloyds Bank before retiring, set out to lose weight as she approached her 50th birthday, and went on to drop from 13st 10lbs to 10st 12lbs.
She said: “I had been unhappy with my weight for years and it really affected my self confidence to the point where I dreaded social events, feeling everyone was looking at me and judging me because of my weight.
“I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and the symptoms, like pain and swelling of my joints, were definitely exacerbated by my weight. I sometimes struggled to get out of bed.
“I had some lovely celebrations planned for my birthday but I knew I wouldn’t enjoy them – or the photos afterwards – if I didn’t lose weight. I decided to join Slimming World in January because I’d been a member before and I knew it worked.”
She added: “By the time my birthday arrived I was over a stone lighter and felt fabulous wearing trousers with my blouse tucked in. My confidence continued to grow as my weight dropped off.
“My pain has reduced greatly along with the amount of medication I take and I have just become so much more active now, enjoying regular walks. I feel like a whole new person and I can’t wait to help and support other people who are unhappy with their weight.” Angela’s Slimming World group starts on Monday, January 4 at St Bede’s Community Centre in Blackwood Road, Town End Farm, Sunderland.
It will run every week at 7pm.
