SUNDERLAND’S award-winning Sunnycon is set to bring the mysterious East back to Wearside this month.

For the third year running, Sunnycon will celebrate the best of Japanese manga comics and anime films, with a selection of top guests from the genre.

This year’s event will be held at the Pullman Lodge Hotel on Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22, and organisers have unveiled two new guests from the world of video games and anime, actors J Michael Tatum and Quinton Flynn.

Tatum is known as the voice of Sir Hammerlock from Borderlands 2, while Flynn will be familiar to fans of the Metal Gear Sold video game series as the voice of Raiden, and both men have a lengthy CV of anime voice work.

The pair will be available for signings and photos with fans, as well as giving talks and holding a question and answer session on stage. Sunnycon will also boast a wide range of activities for attendees to get involved with, such as panels for cosplay (costume play) and voice acting, and competitions such as a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament, run by Konami, and video game play-offs. No convention would be complete without merchandise and there will be a dealers’ room with comics, clothes, and artwork to buy. For more information, visit or
