Last year when the SAFN reminded people to apply, they received 186 applications and many of the veterans had their badge presented by the Mayor Coun Barry Curran in the Mayoral Party on Battle of Britain Day.

SAFN Chairman Graham Hall said: “Last year was a great success and we would like to ensure that veterans once again have the chance to have their service recognised.

“We are asking applicants to contact us and we will send them a form to be returned to us, then we will do the rest”.

Plans are now being made for another badge presentation event for those who would like to attend to be held on V.E. Day which is on Sunday, May 8.

The presentation will be held after the V.E. Day Commemoration at The Burdon Road War Memorial in the morning.

Graham added: “Sunderland has the higest proportion of veterans of any city in the UK. Many of those who served do not have their badges and we would like to help them rectify that issue.
